It is so important for us to understand that adult problems aren’t the only problems that need to be focused on. Adults are capable of taking care of themselves most of the time or ask for it. Children on the other hand are completely dependent on us and look up to us to support them and understand them. Children can have many mental health issues for which care needs to be given. Some of the disorders commonly occurring in children are: Attention Deficiency Hyper Activity (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Anxiety Disorder, Eating Disorder, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Schizophrenia, to name some.
All of these are very demanding disorders and need care and attention, so much so, that some of them can cause children to have difficulty working altogether. If not tended to at the young age can cause them to not be able to perform everyday tasks when they grow up. These disorders don’t just go away just because they are found in children. If not attended to, they come with you to adulthood. I myself have ADHD. Mine is relatively lower in the spectrum, at least now. ADHD can be very destructive if not kept in check. Attention Deficiency, as name suggests, causes the child to not be able to focus on one thing for a longer duration of time. This causes for the child to often perform badly in school or even get into trouble because of the same. Hyper Activity, again as name suggests, causes the child to have a lot of energy at all times. In severe cases it can cause the child to cause harm to oneself or others around them. It becomes very important that this energy is used in a more positive light. Physically exhausting activities become key. This energy if not expelled can even cause the child to not sleep which in turn can be very harmful. ADHD can come in combination of Dyslexia but does exist individually too.
Schizophrenia is a very elaborate disorder and maybe we can talk about it a different post, and PSTD is no stranger to children and adults alike. Any drastic negative event can be a cause for PTSD and just like adults, children need to confront it and talk about it to be able to heal from it. Autism is also a common disorder among children which can cause children with ASD unable to perform daily tasks without assistance. To conclude it is extremely important for everyone to support these kids through their growth because these battles cannot be won by themselves. A child with no disorders depends heavily on adults, imagine how difficult it must be for kinds with the disorder. Support them and nurture them, and moreover don’t alienate them.
